Born and raised in Nashville, Cary Brothers bought his first guitar at thirteen and has been writing songs ever since. After moving to Los Angeles, he became a fixture at the legendary Hotel Cafe, emerging from the influential singer-songwriter scene that helped define a generation of independent music in the early 2000s.

Brothers first gained national attention when his song “Blue Eyes” appeared on the Grammy-winning, Platinum-selling Garden State soundtrack. In the years since, his music has reached more than 500 million people worldwide, and four of his releases reached #1 on the iTunes Music Singer-Songwriter chart.  He’s had over 100 of his songs featured across film and television, including Grey’s Anatomy, The Vampire Diaries, No Hard Feelings, and Netflix’s I Will Find You and My Life with the Walter Boys.  His work in visual media also extends to commercial songwriting, including co-writing a song performed by Miley Cyrus and Dolly Parton for T-Mobile’s 2022 Super Bowl campaign. He has performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and The Late Late Show, been featured in Billboard, Entertainment Weekly, and USA Today, and toured internationally alongside artists including Sara Bareilles, Brandi Carlile, and Imogen Heap.

His music has also found an audience far beyond the singer-songwriter world. Brothers collaborated with electronic music icon Tiësto, whose remix of Cary’s song “Ride” became an international club hit, and later contributed an original song to Tiësto’s album Kaleidoscope.

In 2023, Brothers made his feature-film acting debut in MGM’s A Good Person, written and directed by Zach Braff, performing his song “Stardust” opposite Academy Award nominee Florence Pugh. The song was subsequently nominated for Best Song – Independent Film at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards.

Two decades after Garden State first introduced his music to audiences around the world, Brothers returned to where that chapter began as Executive Producer and Music Director of the Garden State 20th Anniversary Concert at Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre. The sold-out celebration reunited artists from the landmark soundtrack, including The Shins, Iron & Wine, and Frou Frou, with special appearances by Zach Braff, Natalie Portman, and Laufey.

From intimate singer-songwriter records to electronic collaborations, major film, television, and advertising placements, and large-scale live productions, Brothers has built a career around songs that live at the intersection of music and storytelling.
